The Music of The Blues and Royals

A major historical documentation of the music of a great cavalry regiment.

The Blues and Royals were formed from the Royal Horse Guards and the 1st Dragoons and together with The Life Guards are the two cavalry regiments in the Household Division. This series features music associated with this great regiment and music arranged by former Directors of Music. There is a wealth of trumpet calls, performed superbly on the notoriously difficult valveless cavalry trumpet and fanfares for the whole fanfare team. There are many excellent and rousing marches associated with the regiment, including marches for band and cavalry trumpets. There is also an excellent sequence of music for The Queen’s Birthday Parade. Curiosities include March of the Royal Horse Guards by none other than Johann Strauss (the Elder), the haunting slow march The Dragoons and Tangier, written in the 17th Century, a wonderful arrangement of J.S. Bach’s Jesu Joy of Man’s Desiring and Ennio Morricone’s (famous composer of music for ‘spaghetti westerns’) Gabriel’s Oboe.
